Anti-Aging & Youthful, Glowing Skin Year-Round: DNA, Telomeres & More

The summer and autumn heat don’t have to be the only things making waves. As you may recall if you’ve read my books above, the process of aging is merely a combination of lots of little things happening at once.

First, It’s Free Radicals

Because some really villainous free radicals have the power to tear away at your telomeres (protective tips of your DNA critical for aging), they ultimately have the power to tear away at your DNA, too. This, in turn, can handicap certain cells, contributing to the onset of early aging.

Secondly, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) Decreases with Age

NADs are the molecules helping you transform food into energy, regulating the molecules in your system and repairing damaged DNA. Unfortunately, when they decrease with age, the body is unable to fight free radicals as quickly as it should.

So between DNA getting attacked by free radicals (which can be produced by harmful UV exposure) and decreasing NADs unable to adequately, efficiently repair the DNA damage caused by destroyed telomeres... anti-aging and feeling confident in your skin can feel like an uphill battle.

The key to healthy skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles is keeping your skin hydrated and protected, and here’s what you can do:

While it’s healthy to soak up the sun in certain doses, too much can be a bad thing. In fact, too much sunlight can cause further depletion of your NAD, so I suggest finding a sunscreen adequate for your specific skin type, especially during hot summer months when you will be spending more time outdoors.

2) Build Up Your NRF2:

Also known as Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-related factor, your NRF2 is your system’s bodyguard. When it feels your body enters into oxidative stress (when free radicals skyrocket), it binds itself with your DNA and signals your cells to shield themselves from future stress.

By penetrating the skin’s surface, red light stimulates the production of collagen and elastin—two essential proteins responsible for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity, and a youthful appearance.
